Close quarters handling is easily managed with the fish tail rudder and proportional hydraulic bow thruster. The engine is a 325 hp Mercedes 403 V10. This is a heavy duty tractor engine that regularly achieves 30,000+ hours in agricultural applications.

Keel cooling and dry stack exhaust increase expectations for longevity of mechanical systems and decrease the number of thru-hulls. In fact, except for a sonar thru-hull there are no thru-hulls below the water line.

Running gear is protected by a full length keel and skeg.

Access this vessel through a hinged side door in the high bulwarks. These side bulwarks doors are located to port and starboard, just forward of the helm station. From this position a large open foredeck lies ahead, and the main deck cabin lies astern.

A teak table and seating that is used for entertaining or relaxing outdoors lies forward of the main deck cabin. Further forward lies an elevated teak bench. This bench is protected from the wind by the flare of the bow while underway, and on a nice day is the preferred location for piloting while underway with the autopilot remote.

The side decks and cockpit around the main deck cabin are covered. The cockpit has a storage cabinet, and an access hatch to the large lazarette which contain the steering gear. A custom stainless steel dive ladder provides access in and out of the tender or the water.

High bulwarks line the perimeter of the deck, and these bulwarks are accented with stainless steel handrails or hearty bollard cleats.

The main cabin is entered through hinged exterior doors on either side of the main cabin. Upon entering, a settee / lounge area lies aft. This bright space is suited for meals, observing the scenery while underway, entertainment (games / TV), or could serve as an office / workstation.

The helm station has seating for two, with a full-sized captain’s chair and a smaller companion seat at the adjacent chart table. Visibility is good, but the long foredeck does produce a blind spot just below the bow. This blindspot has been addressed with the addition of a downward facing IR camera installed on the jackstaff. An aft facing camera aids with docking and engine room camera allows the skipper to monitor the engine room while underway.

The lower deck contains the galley, saloon, and staterooms, and is accessed via ladder from the helm station. The galley is U-shaped and located immediately to the starboard from the base of the ladder from the main deck. The galley is equipped with plenty of counterspace, a 4-burner gas cooktop, sink, convection oven / microwave, refrigerator, and storage above and below the countertops.

The saloon lies forward of the galley and consists of L-shaped upholstered built-in seating and free-standing chairs surrounding a long solid rectangular solid wood table.

Opposite the saloon lie cabinets that contain the washer and the dryer and a head compartment that can be used as a guest head or a day head. The toilet is a standard residential type toilet (e.g., not a marine toilet). This is not only elegant while aboard, but also simplifies maintenance.

The guest stateroom lies forward of the saloon, and has an elevated double berth to port with a storage area beneath the berth which contains a large deep freezer. A washbasin with vanity is to starboard. The tiled shower compartment is accessed from the guest stateroom and doubles as wet locker.

The master stateroom lies aft of the galley and down a corridor. The master contains a queen size berth which lies athwartships, a washbasin, head compartment (with residential toilet, and storage).

The engine room entrance is located off the passageway between the galley and the master stateroom. This space contains the main engine, generators, batteries, chargers, hydraulics, bilge pumps and heater. A large work bench runs the entire length of the space for projects.

*Modern LED lighting is used throughout.

*Heat: central diesel furnace w/ individually adjustable radiators.

*Washer and dryer: Bosch Maxx 6 washer; Marynen, dryer - European models.

*Refrigerators: Siemens, electric (2); 230vAC, galley and pilothouse.

*Wood floors: Acacia, new 2019/2020.

The vessel is boarded through a hinged side door in the bulwarks. These bulwarks doors are located to port and starboard just forward of the pilothouse.

The foredeck is large and open and is equipped with a teak table and chairs for outdoor entertaining or relaxing. A forward facing elevated teak bench seat is located further forward. The forward seating is generally protected from the wind by the flare of the bow while underway, and is a comfortable location to pilot from with the autopilot remote when the weather permits.

High bulwarks run the perimeter of the deck and are accented with substantial bollard cleats and a heavy duty stainless steel handrail.

The side decks surrounding the cabin and the cockpit are covered.

The interior is accessed through hinged companionway doors located to port and starboard.

Upon entering the cabin on the main deck a U-shaped seating area / lounge is located immediately aft. Numerous windows make this a bright space. This area is suited for meals, entertainment, observing the sights while underway, or could function as an office / work station.

The helm station is located forward of the lounge. A full size captain's chair and a smaller companion seat face forward. Visibility is good from this elevated position and with large windows spanning 270+ degrees. The blind spot created by the long bow ahead of the helm station has been compensated for with the addition of a downward facing IR camera installed on the jackstaff.

A ladder provides access to the lower deck. The lower deck's main cabin consists of a galley and a dining area. A guest stateroom lies forward and the master stateroom lies aft.

The galley is U-shaped and is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, sink, and gas cooktop. Storage is located above and below the countertops.

The dining area is consists a long solid wood tabletop with a combination of built in seating and free-standing chairs.

A washer, dryer, and guest head / day head are located opposite the dining area in this main lower deck cabin.

The guest stateroom is located forward and contains a double berth, wash basin and access to a large shower compartment which can double as a wet locker.

The master stateroom is an aft cabin with a queen size berth that lies athwartship, wash basin, and head compartment. The stateroom offers considerable storage.

The full height engine room is located off of the walkthrough between the galley and the master cabin.

Of note are the toilets on this vessel, which are conventional residential style toilets.

Commentaires du Broker

This Dutch-built steel trawler is impressive inside and out. She was originally built to meet the standards of a North Sea professional mariner / captain and is quite heavily built (~63 tons).

Several updates have been made in the last eight years by the current owners. New coatings, new electronics, new acacia cabin soles (with hidden deck hatches), teak deck furniture, a stainless boarding ladder, and most recently the addition of a DMS MagnusMaster two rotor stabilizer system, which was installed in 2023. Tankage allows for long-range cruising (800 gal fuel / 500 gal water / 250 gal holding) and stabilizers provide for comfort in a broad range of conditions.

I like the vessel's diverse assortment in accommodations areas. There is a substantial amount of open deck space on the foredeck with appropriate furniture that allows outside enjoyment AND covered side decks and cockpits. I imagine that the lounge on the main deck is well-suited for the day’s activities and the saloon / galley on the lower deck, which is centered between the staterooms, would be a hub of activity in the evenings. This vessel can accommodate large parties for short durations, but this is a very comfortable layout for extended cruising with 2-4, and would be well suited for anything that the Pacific Northwest or beyond has to offer.

Natural Mahogany and Acacia wood is used throughout the interior construction. The interior has a fantastic layout and rich finish. The staterooms feel like rooms, with adequate open space, comfortable standard mattresses, and normal residential sinks and toilets. You would not be remiss if you find yourself forgetting that you are aboard and not ashore. The helm station, however, is that of a ship's bridge and has good visibility aided by forward and aft facing cameras, a comfortable chair, and modern electronics. The engine room also looks like one that would be found on a ship, and is home to the Mercedes 403 V10, which is a beast of an engine that regularly achieves 30,000+ hours in agricultural and industrial applications. One last comment on shipboard equipment and machinery -- I appreciate the simplicity of the diesel powered hydronic heater. Each space has its own radiator heater plumbed to the boiler unit, and in some cases multiple radiators per space for silent, foolproof, and effective heating. You'll never have to feel cold inside on this vessel, unless you choose to be.

Of note, the seller prefers (but is not absolutely insistent on) a closing date in fall 2024. This would potentially allow a prospective buyer to make their necessary arrangements over the coming months to make their cruising dreams a reality!

This Nordzee Kotter 52 is an approachable and well-rounded vessel that will provide her new owner with the potential for serious cruising opportunities. Take a trip up the Inside Passage and visit Ketchikan! Once there, maybe you'll want to keep going -- Juneau, Prince William Sound, Kodiak, Dutch Harbor, or beyond? With this Nordzee Kotter 52, you can!
